Details of Experience:

Loretta Mauro was admitted to The Legacy at Boca Rehabilitation and Nursing Center on October 30, 2025, following a fall at home. Prior to admission, Loretta lived independently in her condo and used a walker for ambulation. She reported losing her balance while getting into bed, which led to her fall and subsequent hospitalization, where she was diagnosed with double pneumonia. Loretta received assistance from a private-duty aide for five hours a day, who helped with showering, dressing, and meal preparation, though Loretta was able to feed herself independently.

Before her hospitalization, Loretta spent most of her time at home because the community clubhouse was too far for her to reach safely with her walker. She enjoyed watching television, completing word search puzzles, and playing games on her tablet. Upon admission to the facility, Loretta expressed feeling very nervous and uncertain about how beneficial therapy would be for her recovery. However, after meeting with the nursing team and interdisciplinary staff, she began to feel more at ease with the rehabilitation process.

Loretta participated actively in physical and occupational therapy and gradually built strong relationships with the therapy team. Therapy focused heavily on improving her balance, mobility, and confidence. She made significant progress, increasing her walking distance from 150 feet with maximal assistance on steps to 250 feet with supervision only. Improvements were also noted in toileting, transfers, and dressing, with her progressing to needing minimal or no assistance. Loretta expressed feeling supported and stated that therapy helped her feel capable of functioning as she did prior to hospitalization.

During her stay, Loretta greatly enjoyed participating in facility activities, especially Bingo and live entertainment, making sure not to miss a session. She also valued socializing with other residents while continuing to enjoy her favorite independent activities. With the encouragement of her family and care team, Loretta is preparing to transition to an assisted living community near her daughter, where she looks forward to continued social engagement, activities, and maintaining her independence.

The Team of The Legacy wishes Loretta continued success in her healthcare journey and thanks her for choosing us for her rehab experience.
